The theme of the latest podcast offering from Phil Keaggy (March 2008) is death.  (By the way, no comments from Phil for disappearing off the podcast radar for halves of years at a time, but whatevs.)  Seriously though, that is the theme, and in particular, the deaths of musicians that Phil was close to, and it was a very good one.  Lots of great music, lots of laughs (with Larry Norman particularly), and lots to meditate on.  It seems to fall in line with the book I've been reading by my friend Matt Rogers about the fallen state of the world, and how we need to be prepared to deal with grief, not to mention our own expiration.

Here's a photo of Phil Keaggy and me when he came into town in 2001.  I attended one of his guitarist's clinics that he does before the night's concert, and it was truly a great experience.  I thought I'd be silly (who, me?) and write "Biggest Phil Keaggy fan here" on my shirt for some laughs.  One fellow took offense at such a young guy making such a superlative claim, as though he himself deserved that title by virtue of his being at the act of fandom for many more decades than myself.  My response to that was, "Well then, where's your shirt?"  At least that's how I want to remember it going down.

Glad my friend Colin Smith had the sense to bring a camera.  How about that death grip I had?  Maybe I was hoping to get some guitar talent the same way I get toothpaste.  Okay, you have no excuse now, go get that podcast!
