Here's to the happy couple! The traditional gift for the tenth wedding anniversary is aluminum or tin. This left me (as usual) scratching my head for ideas, but I decided we could go rent an aluminum boat at Lake Benson in Garner. You just can't go wrong with all the nature you would possibly want for $3.00 an hour. We saw a mother goose sitting on her giant nest, a big pile of beaver-chewed sticks, and some turtles. But the real reason we were out there was so I could snap a photo of us on our tenth anniversary to go in the aluminum frame I was lucky enough to find at Target. This morning, I set the photo on the dresser, and noticed right beside it our engagement photo. Boy was that ever a reality check. How we have aged in 11 years. I noted over the weekend that I got married a full third of my life ago. I guess I should expect to look a little different. We went down to the coast for a weekend without the kids. It was very quiet. I got to finish reading my friend Matt Rogers' very good book When Answers Aren't Enough. Now, the honeymoon's over, and it's back to life -- every happy, sad, difficult, celebratory, precious moment of it. |
